I have experience in team-based, long-term engineering projects, and skills that support those projects.
High Powered Rocketry Club (HPRC)
I am the lead of a team of 10 that is designing and manufacturing a system to retain and deploy a quadcopter throughout a rocket launch, and during descent. My responsibilities include teaching, system design and review, integration with other systems, time management, and managing the team.
Computer Aided Design (CAD)
I have significant experience with SolidWorks, designing parts and assemblies to be manufactured using either additive manufacturing techniques, or CNC machining techniques. I have become comfortable with designing a range of systems.
Manufacturing Techniques
Most systems that I have designed have ultimately been manufactured either as a prototype or a final product. As such I have experience in additive manufacturing with PLA, PC, and TPU, and experience in CNC machining with mills and lathes.
Results of my Experiences
In my year and a half with HPRC, I have grown as an engineer, developing technical skills such as CAD, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining. I have learned to work with my team to develop systems that will function independently, and integrate properly into the larger mission.
In my time as a team lead I have developed leadership and management skills, as well as honed my design skills. I have personally and collaboratively developed, manufactured, and tested multiple mechanical systems that integrate with other systems to complete the mission.
In June of 2023 I went to New Mexico with HPRC to compete in the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), which hosts over 150 collegiate teams from all over the world. We successfully launched the rocket, and deployed the payload. The payload, which I was directly responsible for working on, won 3rd place in the overall payload competition.
